Training the next generation of African storytellers
Future Frames Institute is the educational arm of Better. — part film school, part residency, part community programme. We train filmmakers, photographers and content creators in Mozambique through a mix of free outreach programmes and paid masterclasses, with hands-on access to professional gear via GearPlug.

Storytellers in Residence
A scholarship programme for young Mozambican filmmakers. Selected residents receive mentorship, gear access via GearPlug, production support, and a window to develop one short film over six months — free of charge.

Community Workshops
Free hands-on workshops in schools, youth centres and bairros across Maputo and beyond. Topics range from smartphone filmmaking to audio recording and basic editing. Built around real local stories, taught by working professionals.

Equipment Loan
Selected students and emerging filmmakers can borrow professional gear from GearPlug at no cost — cameras, lenses, lighting, audio — for personal projects, festival submissions or graduation films.

Public Screenings
Quarterly community screenings of work made by FFI alumni and Mozambican independent cinema. Free entry, post-screening Q&A with the directors, and platform for first-time filmmakers to show work in public.

Cinematography & Camera
Professional camera operation, lens choice, lighting design, exposure, framing and movement. From DSLR fundamentals to working with cinema cameras — taught with real gear, on real sets.

Storytelling & Script
Narrative structure, character development, dialogue, scene construction and screenwriting. For filmmakers, content creators, and brand storytellers who want to move beyond the surface.

Photography Masterclass
Composition, light, colour, post-processing and personal style. Modules for portrait, documentary, photojournalism and lifestyle work. Field exercises across Maputo’s most photogenic locations.

Editing & Post-Production
Adobe Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve, colour grading workflows, sound design, motion graphics. Project-based learning — you finish the course with a published reel.

Marketing & Positioning
For filmmakers and creative entrepreneurs: brand identity, audience strategy, pricing, pitching, and how to turn craft into a sustainable business in the African creative economy.

Director’s Workshop
Intensive directing programme for filmmakers ready to step up. Working with actors, blocking scenes, vision development, and managing a crew — with feedback from established Mozambican directors.
